I received & I have to replace the file cgauth60.dll in root dyrectory of 3dsmax 8.
The installation is on a new computer and the licence of 1.47.03 was
never installed below. Only the new 1.5 RC2 installation.
I tested the port 30303 and 30304 is always I do not obtain the licence.
Could you help me?
In that case, follow the instructions in your original download email for V-Ray to install the 1.47 version, and then proceed with the RC, e.g.:
(1) Uninstall the current 1.5 RC version of V-Ray from the Add/Remove programs control panel.
(2) Download and install the 1.47.03 version of V-Ray. This includes the required VRLServer.exe file which is installed into the root folder of 3dsmax.
(3) If you already use a floating license from an existing VRLServer in your network go to step (4). If you do not have a VRLServer already in your network and you want to install a local license, do the following:
(3.1) Start the VRLServer.exe. It will complain that it cannot find a valid license and will put up a dialog with a license request number. Send this number to vray@chaosgroup.com; we will send you back the needed license key, which you need to paste into the same dialog.
(3.2) Close the VRLServer.exe. Start 3dsmax and make sure that the 1.47.03 version is successfully running.
(3.3) Close 3dsmax.
(4) Install the 1.5 RC version on top of the existing 1.47.03 version.
(5) Replace the cgauth60.dll file as described in my email.
(6) If you want to use an already exising VRLServer in your network, set up the details from the Render scene dialog.
Again, this is a temporary work-around until people get their dongles.

I am not able to run new build with the file I have received via email.
I have followed your steps exactly as you described buy I’m still receiving “could not obtain license” message.
Version 1.47.03 is running with no problems.
I guess problem is coused by the fact that I’m not using advanced version but demo version. I have just chcecked my account but I’m able to download only demo version of Vray 1.5 RC2. V-Ray Advanced for educational use - latest stable builds is stated as version 1.47.03. OR is it something completly different?
Or do I have to wait till V-Ray Advanced for educational use 1.5 RC2 will be available for download?

I have installed 1.5 over 1.47 and then replaced cgauth60.dll as desicribed but I am still getting licence not found? There is a valid licence on the Vray Server… from the render dialog within MAX what should my license sever be… computer name?.. same question for the connection port… I have 30304?.. is there anything else I can check?

Speaking of virtual dongles, where do I get mine? A buddy of mine told me you guys at chaosgroup emailed it straight to him. If so, why havent I recieved an email?

Ofcourse…and before you ask, yes, I also got the request confirmation mail.
The email was sent out with the file as a .zip attachment, I believe. If you have an automated firewall like we do here, it could have bounced the email.
No. I recieve zip and rar files all the time. Anyway, if the mail server bounces an email, it tells me by sending an email with the relevant information on who from etc.
Can I please have my Virtual dongle please?
Though to be honest, we did get an email the other day from vlado, without a subject and stating only “Hello software”.
I sent a reply asking what was up, but still havent gottten any answer 
I’ve still not received any e-mail from chaosgroup regarding this dongle free temporary fix until the actual dongles are released. There are bound to be others in the same position?
Did you fill out the request form for the dongle yet? If you fill that out then you should get an email regarding the temp patch.

Same here, send the dongle request and never recieved anything yet. But did get an email from Vlado saying that I should have recieved an email by now. Just being patient :roll:
Not to seem like an angry or unsympathetic guy, but what part of some of our posts did you net read?
YES we filled out the dongle app. form (a long time ago),
YES we got the confirmation email, and
NO, we still have not recieved the email with the CGAuth.dll file.
Personally I have been bugging Vlado via email about this for a while now, but I guess he has turned on a spam filter with my companys name in it or something.
At least you got to fill out the dongle application form. I am still waiting to hear back what I need to do to get one :shock:
peter the dongle request form is on the chaos website, you need to login to the support page to do so
yeah, I do that and then it tells me there is something wrong with that and to contact them…
Can you send me an email with your login details to vlado@chaosgroup.com so that I can check what may be wrong?
