2D Trees have "white seams" around them when viewed against backgrounds...

How to get rid of those seams? I downloaded several of those highly appraised Vyonyx trees… but I get these white seams… or whatever other word might be used for these artifacts. Is there a parameter inside VRAY itself to increase the area affected by the alpha mask?

No, you have to edit the diffuse and/or clip maps in a photo editor. It’s a very common problem with climapped trees, they almost always have a blue halo from sloppy clipmap creation.
