3ds max 2027.2 point objects and gaussian splats

I am almost certain you guys are already working on it, but when is it planed for corona to be able to handle the new point and gaussian splats objects from 3ds max 2027.2? I already used in projects the gaussian splats from corona with Vantage, but the ability to edit the points with the new 3ds max object and relight the gaussian splats, makes this a very desirable feature (and running in vantage as well). Autodesk finally made an update with an interesting feature (something we did not see for the past 20 years.), I hope I can use it with corona soon.

Cheers all.

The plan would be Corona 16 toward the end of the year, BUT development and coding has a way of not listening to plans lol, so don’t take it as a promise  Never know how it will go until you start on it. It was added to the Trello roadmap earlier this week when I finally got it updated for the post-15-release details that are available at the moment!

On the relighting side. The current method uses an Arnold shader.

Yes, support will start with the support of the new Max Splats for rendering, but relighting will have to come later (as it is a more complex issue). While it sounds exciting that native Splats have relighting, as pointed out above this is only for Arnold (and indeed currently that’s the only engine that can even render them  ). So rendering support first, relighting of them is an unknown (plus we have to consider relighting of our own splats too). I would not expect either relighting to be in Corona 16, sorry.

I hope GS relighting will come sooner rather than later, i tried it with Arnold and i think it’s absolute game changer.

Imagine gsplat videos with relighting! :exploding_head:

I used corona GS and vantage only for 1 animation so far: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcHjIZse7BI

Initially I tried camera tracking with daVinci and rotoscoping but, with trees in the foreground and background I quickly gave up that idea. GS was a time saver, not sure how I would mask all the foreground trees.
