3ds Max Template causes annoying slowdowns

Hi
With the new QT rewriting, I was hoping that all material slowdowns were something from the past, but even on Corona 14 preview, this annoying slowdown its still present.

Finally I found out that its not related to QT, it was caused from my 3ds Max Template, but only Corona cause this, V-Ray doesnt have this anormal slowdown.

Im sharing some videos were you can see the issue, hoping that someone can reproduce it and find out what exactly is causing all this, im attaching the template too.

Also I have to say that a couple of months, I had a license issue where for some reason I couldnt activate Corona, but as soon as I opened the SME the license activated itself, I was using the template where I have a couple of maps and materials, that was odd, but knowing that corona analyze the license when a material is created, that was suspicious.

The template also have some layers, viewport display, render elements and some Corona tweaks.

Video 1

Corona_Template 01 - All slowdowns (merge object, call material from object, turn off rendering thumbnails and load .mat file).
Video 2

Corona_Template 02 - Loading .mat with render thumbs on, I stop the video because 3ds Max stoped working, this is the worst scenario.
Video 3

Vray_Template - The same procedure just the difference with V-Ray as render engine (no license), slowdowns present, but not as radical as Corona.
Video 4

Corona_Default Template - No slowdowns.
Video 5

Vray_Default Template - No slowdowns.

Thanks a lot for all the details!

Since the issue appears only when you are using a non-default template, I have some basic questions: what exactly are these templates? Is it a 3ds Max feature or a 3rd party addon? How to enable it?
Sorry, but I just saw it for the first time.

Ok, those are layers.

But still, what is the difference between “template” and “no template”? Is the template just a custom .max file that you are opening before merging the object?

Hi Maru

Yes.
The template is a custom 3ds max file which I shared in the post.
Like I said before “The template have a couple of maps and materials, some layers, viewport display, render elements and some Corona configuration tweaks”

This file is loaded into 3ds max template manager (File/New/New from Template/Open Template Manager) so the next time you open 3ds max it comes with everything the file has prepared.
3ds Max has some default templates, I have one for Corona, one for V-Ray and other for my job.
I used to work with vray and this didnt happened there, now that im working with Corona fulltime for my job, ive had alot of issues like this.

Hope this helps to find out what is happening.

Since there are Corona tweaks in there, was the template built using Corona 14, or with an older version of Corona? Just wondering if some of the saved tweaks are “out of date” and so causing a problem?

As i recall I built it on Corona 12, but updated with 13
Ill try to recreate another one from scratch in Corona 13 just in case

TY! Not sure if it will change anything, but worth a try - let us know if it makes any difference!

Ok
I have made another template from scratch in Corona 13 and at some point, the file gerenates the slowdown, its odd because I have other 2 templates that doesnt have any issue, one was made with V-Ray and the other one with Corona, Maxfinder says it was done/updated with Corona 12. Im attaching it so you can compare too.

Have you tested the one I attached before?
Are you having slowdowns?

The main differences are:
-Corona Version
-New Layers and stacked ones
-Render Elements - AiEnhancer/Bloom/LightSelect for environment
-Sky in Corona Select for environment
-a couple of settings

The funny thing is…I have adjusted with Corona 13 the working template (done in a previous version) and its running ok. So theres something odd here when doing it from scratch.

Fiuuu
Finally someone shared to me one trick to use another kind of Template and avoid Corona mess with it.
Save the “template” file as “maxstart” into Project Folder and thats it.
Still dont know why Corona is messing with the file.
I have tested with final release in Corona 14 and still its doing something when saving the file that corrupts this behaivior.
