Hi,
we are getting counts of scenes lately where activatging denoiser basicaly ignores lightmix setups.
Once rendered, we play with lightmix, set it up, then activate denoiser and all the lights switch on with default values.
When we turn denoiser off again, we can see the lights setup properly.
Looks like there is some bug in the lightmix/denoiser connection.
Happens on the latest nightly of update 2.
Ruins the workflow really.
Denoiser should wok while working with lightmix…its doesnt…when we woirk witrh lightmix, it turns off.
Any clues?
Thanks
Martin
Are you by any chance loading a Layer Preset?
The reason I’m asking is that there are two known issues precisely with the denoiser not considering LightMix: when loading a layer preset from the drop-down menu (VMAX-11733), and when loading manually (Load Layer Preset button) while IPR is running (VFB-149).
Hello Aleksandar,
no layer preset ![]()
This happens on new scenes with new tonemapping setups.

Mind if you attach/send a scene with the necessary steps so we can troubleshoot?
Is there any movement on this bug, btw? It’s very annoying.
Oh my, I thought I was going crazy 2 days ago when trying to make it work, now I know why. Please fix.
Yes, I’m also having LightMix issues on my side since installing the update (2 updates ago ![]()
The only lights showing up are my VraySun (now relabelled Scene Root), one arbitrary luminaire out of the 20 or so other lights, plus Environment & Self Illumination.
Send a scene, please.

This bug is not scene dependent,it happens to me on a daily basis on every scene.
After some tweaking on the light mix, suddenly denoiser stops to consider the light mix changes.
The easy fix I found is to click undo and redo buttons in the vfb and it works again for some time, but it’s happening again after some more tweaking…
Thanks for the provided scene.I managed to reproduce the issue, and it’s different from what the discussed in the thread. When a VRayLuminaire is left without its VRayProxy, LightMix creates a Scene Root layer for all lights. Logged it (internal tracker ID: VMAX-15207) for dev investigation. I’m getting crashes with the scene you sent, so I can’t tell you exactly which Luminaire is left solo. But yeah, the workaround is to reimport the VRayLuminaires from Chaos Cosmos.
ok thanks @hermit.crab . Look forward to the fix.
Honestly lightmix is now unusable in production. Renders now produce varying brightness levels even when all lightmix settings are set to 1.
Maybe you’ve baked previous corrections (via "to scene’)? Send a scene.
No I haven’t the renders were completed minutes apart.
I think I’m going to let someone else handle this issue. I’ve spent enough hours this month cleaning and uploading scenes to chaos and following up bugs.
I’ve found another workaround that might be useful: assigning a parent to each light that you want to control independently in LightMix.
In my scene, all lights that are part of a hierarchy appear as separate entries in LightMix. Lights without a parent are the ones that end up grouped under Scene Root.
So, as a temporary workaround, parenting the affected lights individually seems to restore independent LightMix control.
Of course, I’ll also check my scene to find which VRayLuminaire has been left without its VRayProxy, as that seems to be the underlying cause in my case as well
Edit: Small update: placing the light inside a 3ds Max Group also works. It seems that any light that is part of a hierarchy appears independently in LightMix, while lights directly under Scene Root are grouped together.
