The VRay forum starts having its own comic strip on a fairly regular basis. This is the latest Alien Zoo gag (the simple humor is aimed at children, so don’t expect to laugh out loud). I leave it up to you to guess what the guys are talking about. Marc and other Dutchies, don’t spoil this.
Paul, thanks. Nope, I don’t draw the foreground characters. A talented old friend of mine and colleague illustrator takes care of that. A third man comes up with the majority of the scenarios.
I used to be a 2D guy, creating graphics, characters and animations for commercial computer games for about ten years (mainly on the Amiga, using the legendary Deluxe Paint). If you’d like to see some of my old 2D graphics, be welcome at this section of my website.
nice work on your game section of the site…
I’m currently working on a 2d scroller space shooter in Macromedia flash and I had to do some of that 2d art work as well…but most of it it’s 3d and then rendered to 2d sprites…
the game is still in the works - I should hvae a playeable prototype in a couple of weeks, then I’ll post it…
it’s kinda cool - something different from the usual arch viz stuff…plus programing in flash make me think different then when doing 3d…
Thanks very much, Gonçalo and Paul. I always appreciate your nice feedback.
Gonçalo, Jon already guessed what the gag is about (see above). As I mentioned: don’t expect to laugh out loud. It’s a simple children’s giggle-gag.
Paul, I’d love to see and play your game when it’s finished. Please post a link over here or e-mail me (see my website for address).
About half a year ago I did some old school 2D graphics again, for a mobile phone game called Yin Hung (for the Nokia N-Gage). Like Paul mentioned I also created everything in Max and rendered it with the good ol’ scanline (too bad that the “Don’t anti-alias against background” option doesn’t work with VRay and too bad VRay isn’t a hero with orthogonal views, otherwise I could’ve used VRay for these gfx). Here’s an example screenshot mock-up with the game’s graphics.
nice!!! I like the variety in the game level components…looks slick.
I’ll post some screen shots later on…I’m still designing the interface. and animating some spaceships…plus some code components still need to be added before it can be played. I’m also writing a simple level editor w/ the game so that eventually one can download the game and make his/her own graphic componets…
