aluminium by VrayMtl?

Hi guys, I want to create aluminium material from VrayMtl. Could you show me how to do it please!

Hi and welcome to the forum..

well its fairly simple to set up…
get the ali colour from an image…

so make the vray mat the same colour as the image .. you can do this by going to File, then View image file… then you can right click on the image and you are able to get the correct colour of the image.

Then you can drag and drop that colour to your materail difusse slot..
Then go to your glossy set that to around 0.7 .. and subdivs to around 10.
if you have the latest version of vray you can use Highlights also.
Not forgetting to set your reflection to around 30 = grey…
you could also use Frensel aswell … play with it and see what you get..

and thats really it…

File, then View image file… then you can right click on the image and you are able to get the correct colour of the image.
Then you can drag and drop that colour to your materail difusse slot..

thanks for that tip…i learnt something new today… than you

thanks Natty but It’s not like alluminium. How to control Specular Level in VrayMtl? This is my setting, please help me

you have to adjust the glossyness to get your highlight’s … or upgrade your build of vray !

natty, I jus stumbled accross something very strange…

your settings are on the left, mine are on the right:

Looks like you have your gamma at 1.8?

No, my gamma is at system defaults.

This is very very strange.

you probably have a different version of vray… where the glossy’s are different. i believe there is a beta of this now for download ..

No I think it still not open beta, just a few more of us now.

yes…keep rubbing it in :frowning:

I *only* have 1.45.7

There are also material editor options for the lights. One can change the light multipliers there. Maybe that is the cause of the difference.

Daniel

yeah dans…i played with that, but can’t seem to duplicate the material image that natty is getting. Hence why I was trying to figure out what other settings he might have changed from default that would affect this.

The only other thing I can think of at this point is if my color mapping settings are affecting the material editor, which doesn’t really make sense and would be a bug.

its the vray version ! … im sure

Perhaps it’s to do with Environment> Ambient light setting?
