Hi Bobby,

Our previous notice regarding case gL7N9jgPLC has not been resolved.

For your reference, one of the device identifiers associated with the unlicensed usage of Vantage, Corona, V-Ray on file is: F4:26:79:2C:63:CA

The Amnesty Program remains available. Purchasing an annual license and applying your amnesty code at checkout will close this case and waive any liability for past usage. This is the simplest path to resolution.

Resolve Case gL7N9jgPLC

Apply amnesty code is gL7N9jgPLC at checkout. Annual plans only - monthly subscriptions will not close this case.

Kind regards,

I am getting the same thing… Reach out to VIKTOR and the email got kicked back as NO USER AT THAT ADDRESS… It’s a google mail response… Something fishy going on here.

I have been getting them, but I just ignore. I don’t use illegal software, and saw it as a phishing attempt.

oddly enough, we reached out to a different contact at Chaos… who verified VIKTOR was indeed a CHAOS representative… I’m good just letting it ride also and was VERY SKEPTICAL as well..

Note that the email referenced a CASE No. and that “seems” legit… but I know these scammers can go to great lengths to cheat.

Something stinks, for sure. Being accused of stealing isn’t something we should take lightly, and Chaos should take this seriously. Now, I am all for cracking down on thieves, but you best be sure you know who you are accusing.

It could be just fishing/scam emails. Don’t click on links.

Also hey Bobby holy crap its been years since I’ve been here - seen you! Wow!

Those links only go to the actual chaos website - so nobody is getting anything except chaos in that case.

Hey, stranger. Welcome back!

I got my third warning email this morning!

Me too.. 3rd warning…

Would help if someone HERE from Chaos could chime in and lend some validity to this whole debacle..

Choas is probably 99% AI now, so there are no people :).

I’ve been receiving these emails as well. The latest one says I have 48 hours to close the amnesty case, otherwise it will move to the next stage of their compliance process.

I only used the V-Ray one-month free trial some time ago.

I’m a student and I’m trying to understand whether these emails are legitimate and what usually happens if the amnesty offer expires.

Has anyone here ignored the emails or gone through the next stage of the process? What happened afterwards?

Also, can anyone confirm whether these messages are genuinely being sent by Chaos or if there is any possibility that this is a phishing scam?

Choas has been 100% silent. I have been using V-Ray since 2002, and I have always been licenses. These are bogus!

@hermit.crab hi, do u know some one from Licenses to clarify this issue?

I’ve forwarded the thread to our internal channels. Somebody from the license compliance team will clarify the matter soon.

I guess I am going to jail!

Case gL7N9jgPLC has been submitted for internal review.

As the amnesty offer was not used within the notice period, this matter is now being escalated. Once the review is complete, the terms available to you today will no longer apply.

If you wish to resolve this before the review concludes, this is your last opportunity to do so.

Resolve Before Review Completes

Amnesty code gL7N9jgPLC remains active for annual plans only. This is the final opportunity to use it.

Kind regards,

Hi everyone. Victor here, from Chaos License Compliance.

Thanks for raising this, and I’m sorry we weren’t faster to respond.

These emails are real and from Chaos. The Amnesty Program is a legitimate Chaos initiative. You can read about it at chaos.com/amnesty-program. It exists to give people a straightforward path to get properly licensed. Case numbers, device identifiers, and links in those emails are all genuine.
I completely understand why you’d be skeptical, scams are everywhere nowadays, so I appreciate you double-checking.

A few things I want to address specifically:
To Duane: I’m sorry your reply bounced. That should not happen and I want to look into it. Please forward your email to ip-litigation@chaos.com and I’ll make sure you hear back from a real person.
To Alex: Please reach out to us at ip-litigation@chaos.com We’ll review your situation individually.
To Bobby and others: If you’ve received one of these emails and believe it was sent in error, we would love to know. Being licensed isn’t always the full picture, but if something doesn’t add up on our end, we’d rather fix it than send you unnecessary emails. Please forward your email to ip-litigation@chaos.com and we’ll look at your account.

I’ll keep an eye on this thread. And yes, this is a real person typing this. :slightly_smiling_face:

To Victor and Chaos…

  1. Please be accurate with your accusations of mis use..
    1. I’ve been a long time user and this puts a stain on my view toward Enscape
    2. Though not unexpected when a big company buys a small company.
      1. Grass roots users typically get the short end of the stick
      2. And I get it, we’re a small 4 seat company… not enough clout to count.
  2. I am offering here, out loud, what I had sent in my emails…
    1. I 100% can fathom that this is in some way related to the CONVERSION in ARCHICAD from the perpetual licensing to subscription (another pet peeve for another thread)…
    2. Somehow the Enscape / Archicad account relationship got muddied and you are accusing me of using “something” without a license.
      1. Which seems strange because your email accused me of using V-Ray without a license. I do not, nor have I ever even used V-Ray.
      2. Yet, oddly enough, when visiting the AMNESTY “fix”… it ASKED ME to CHOOSE which software to BUY as a fix for my transgression.
  3. Here’s the biggest thing… when you accuse someone you should not already treat them as guilty.
    1. You should have offered to review the case
    2. You should always offer a DISPUTE avenue. or in some way be interested in hearing the other side of the story.
    3. It will ALWAYS be interpreted as scam when you THREATEN ALTERNATIVE ACTION within 48 of sending an email.
      1. Don’t take my word for it… I pasted your email into an Ai Engine and they drew the conclusion that this must be a SCAM… In fact, I believe it was CHAOS’s own Ai ASSISTANT!!!

I know I have never used your product without a license… In fact, I’ve never used V-Ray period… ever. But no need to go into that on this thread.

Food for thought, Chaos:

This “Amnesty Program” situation is a great way to push long-time customers away.

I understand license compliance and protecting your IP. But sending aggressive, automated, legal-sounding emails to existing users with case numbers, device IDs, deadlines, and threats of escalation feels like intimidation, not customer support.

The whole thing comes across as guilty until proven innocent. That is a terrible stance to take with people who have paid for your software, built careers around it, and stuck with your ecosystem for years.

That matters, especially right now that the industry is changing and so many are losing their clients to AI.

Many of us are already questioning the cost and friction of staying in the 3ds Max / V-Ray ecosystem. The subscriptions are expensive. The licensing tools are intrusive. Random background services run at startup. Meanwhile, Blender and other free/open-source tools keep getting better, lighter, and more appealing every year.

My 3ds Max and V-Ray renewals are coming up soon. In the past, renewing was basically a no-brainer, and I was actually even glad to pay for V-Ray because I liked the company and the services. Now it is not.

This kind of communication does not make me want to stay loyal to Chaos. It makes me want to finally put in the effort to leave the whole stack behind.

If the goal is to keep paying customers, accusing them by default and wrapping the conversation in legal pressure is a terrible way to do it.

Hope you guys reconsider your position on this.

seeing this thread saddens me on several levels.
