Okay, I saw the thread asking users’ ages, and it reminded me that I am extremely curious as to how many users on here would be considered professional:
I’m an architect, and basically started our company’s first foray into 3D visualizations, and I was wondering where most people call home (home at the office I mean.)
I don’t know if someone knows how to write the code for it (I sure as hell don’t…) but maybe a user survey with a graphical display of the results would be useful if not simply interesting to most here.
Okay, glad I asked; I figured that most people on here did this professionally because it takes so much time and a lot of resources to get to the level of rendering that i’ve seen people produce on this site. As a beginning architect I have felt that learning modelling/rendering can be a great resource but that it’s a huge diversion from what we do day-to-day. Okay, now I’m even more impressed with the work I’ve seen here if you guys are doing this WHILE working as professionals in other fields (or other parts of design/visualization.)
all of the above except industrial design but plus web design/programming and print design and photography.
(and CAD when i’m in desperate need for money. but luckily i can make a living with 3d and web stuff by now.)
Okay, so obviously I didn’t even know enough to pose the question correctly, but it seems like most people do a whole lot more than just produce pretty pictures (although you guys certainly CAN do that.) I guess I wasn’t sure if most people here were mostly doing the visualization of others’ designs or if there were many product/movie/architectural/interior designers using the software to help explain their own designs. I just graduated last May from a very good architecture school and nobody was using V-ray, and only a few people out of hundreds really knew anything about VIZ/Max.
Thanks for responding guys, even though it sounds like you all know what everyone is doing professionally here.
I am a Forensic Animator by day…but i’ve also kept up with all the rest of the 3d fields as well…character, archviz etc. Sadly, i only get to use MAX and Vray at work…I use XSI at home for freelance so no Vray until the XSI version comes out…ummmm…i would gladly beta test that plugin…i hate mental ray!!!
Schroeder - what kind of remote sensing do you do? Are you a processor for seismic data? I ask cause my brother is setting up a remote sensing department.
Mostly, I work with Landsat for environmental applications, like classification, risk modeling. I haven’t worked with seismic data before, sounds interesting though, just about everything in this field is!
