Anima drop keeps hiding textures in 3DsMax

I created an anima project throught the anima drop button in 3DSmax 2026. When I drop in a new person it keeps hiding all textures in the viewport. I then have to go to the animaproject and rebuild materials. This is really annoying and super slow if I want to check the different material variations.

This used to work fine in earlier versions from axyz.

Hi @LucienH

Actually, this is a feature, not a bug :-]

You don’t need to use the “Rebuild Textures” option for this. Furthermore, using it won’t actually change the visibility of the textures; they will simply be displayed briefly until the viewport is refreshed in some way.

That said, you can easily turn them on again in a much more persistent way by using the “Show” button:

A few versions ago, we switched the default texture visibility in the viewport to “Hide” because, when importing Anima scenes with multiple assets, 3dsMax spends quite some time processing those textures. During that time, 3dsMax is totally unresponsive, so it gets very annoying when you need to go back and forth between Anima Designer and 3dsMax. Therefore, we switched the default texture visibility setup to “Hide” so the user can decide by himself if he really wants to wait the time required to see those textures or not.

Hi Albert,

You are right that rebuilding is not necessary and that show is enough, however everytime that I import another object or change the texture of one I have to press it again. Which takes a lot of time. I don’t see how this has become any faster, considering it does show the texture on importing. Just hides it after the initial placing.

@LucienH

The textures are not visible initially when importing scenes from Anima, but it is true that they visible briefly when using the Drop panel. This happens to let the user know which color variation is being placed at each moment.

The reason why you don’t see any any performance difference is that the number of textures loaded when using Drop is usually much smaller than when using the scene import (either using Alive or the menu). However, when you keep adding models to the scene, even when using the Drop panel, the number of textures accumulated in the scene keeps growing, and you will eventually notice the hit in performance when loading the scene. Also, notice the texture visibility is always automatically enabled in the render, it is only hidden in the viewports.

hi albert_alomar
I don’t recall having any performance issues when it used to show the textures. It does create a big annoyance when trying to choose the color variants however. This feels like a massive downgrade. Ever since chaos took over anima only has gone downhill. It would be nice to have an option to toggle showing the textures in the viewport. After we are done placing the humans we can disable it again to remain said performance boost.
