Animated caustic problem ?? .

Well …

i have been doing some test with caustic ..

you can see a jpg. here ..

then i did a small animation test, where the only moving object is the spotlight that is moving in a circle around the knot.
I also made some very hard un-real shadows to show the route …
Thepoint is, that the light source is moving, but the caustic remains the same ..
You can see the short animation here :

http://kof.dyndns.org/krembo99/caustic.test.knot.avi

experimanting with a bottle of gin ( :? ) and a flash-light shows that the caustic should move with the source light (which is also logic, but i didn’t know if the problem was the shape of the node-object)

am i doing something wrong (which is likely) , or is it a Vray bug/limit ?

did you animate the gi, or was it only calculated for 1 frame? I think you need to calculate the GI every frame.

The GI was calculated every frame …
The Photon map i don’t know, how could you control that?

Hi!

Just a wild quess… do you have by any change saved your photon map
for only single frame and are using that?

regards,

Mare

you cannot save that map if that is what you did. it just has to be calculated with each frame.

Re:

Nop.. the map was not saved as far as i know.. unless vray saved it automatically in cache or in the ram ..

Which VRay version is that by the way? I did a small test here with caustics and a moving light and it seems ok.

Best regards,
Vlado

well..
this was done though on a 1.45.something
(i can’t tell really remember right now, it was in some office i worked for a project..)

usually i use 1.09 myself , so i can see if it’s doing the same there..
