Animation - Shadow splotching and dancing

I´ve been hitting my head on the wall for about 4 days trying to figure out how to solve this issue. If anyone has some light to shine here I would be eternally gratefull.

It´s a daylight timelapse within a living room. The camera is slow but moving at a speed of 2 cm/s… not much but enough for the effect I´m trying to get. I followed to the letter the animation rendering tutorial at Chaos: Industry-leading design and visualization software

I´m still using 2.10 since our farm won´t be updated till the end of the year. Each frame (calculation + render) is reaching the 30 minutes mark which is what I expected on core i7s.

No plugins, effects or anything fancy on the scene. Simple architecture and furniture. Only one Sunlight and an HDRI for ambience.

The render params are as follows.

AO : On and with default values
IR : Medium Animation but with Interpolation Samples changed to 50
LC : Exactly as the tutorial - 1200 / 15cm / World
IR+LC Pre-calculated/saved and then rendered without secondary engine

I tested out with LC 2400 / 7,5cm and 2400 / 2cm but to no avail.
I tested out with IR Preset at High Animation
I tested with AO off
I tested out with IR Interpolation Samples at 100

All my tests resulted in the same shadow splotches dancing around. I even tested it with BF and the shadows still moved around a lot.

Has anyone had this kind of problem before?

Here is one second of the animation. The problem areas are the shadows from the purple side tables. They keep dancing like muppets on acid.

I don’t think irradience mode - animation will help in this case. That is mostly designed for animating camera only. Once you have a light object like sun move, this would a different animation, treat it as if your objects in the scene were moving, where single irmap calculation would no longer be sufficient. I think what you would need is irradience mode set to animation prepass, calculate your frames and then irradience mode animation - rendering, to render the sequence. Once you calculate your prepass you do not need secondary bounce since that would already be included in your prepass.

Hi Dmitry, that´s exactly what I´m doing in all my tests. Pre-calc and then render without the secondary.

there is two different precalculation methods though, which one are you using?

sorry I see what you mean. You may need to increase the hemi subdivs then, and also in your animation rendering mode, use more then 2 frame increments, so the more frames you use the smoother the shadows should be. Higher subdivision for hemispherical samples will also give you cleaner shadow.
