Just recently completed this render for BJD/Oceanco, was modelled by John Cantu using Rhino (and in record time too!! nice one John!).
Rendered using vray sun/sky and the physical cam.
Water is a dreamscape surface with some procedural bump maps and a vray plane below to give it some colour.

Yep, wake was done in post. The very front part was from a photo of another yacht, the rest of it was a map I made from loads of different foam photos from cgtextures.com - took me ages to create that!
This isn’t one of Abramovitch’s yachts, infact it doesn’t have an owner yet, so ene.xis get your deposit in quick!
Maybe if we all chip in we can get it!
Nice image too. The only crit is the reflections in the windows seem a little strong. It almost looks like there’s a hole in the boat that you can see the sea through.

Thanks SV, but I have to admit that my comp’ing skills are very junior. Basically I just popped the photo on a layer in photoshop and erased the bits I didn’t need, I’m a dab-hand with the eraser..lol…
The other map I created was as if you were looking down at the wake in plan, so it’s pretty easy to distort and match to the yacht. I made that map black and white so I just set the layer to screen in photoshop and job done!
You’ve got the art of wakes down to a T. Sounds like there is a lot of interest in do this nicely. Could you explain a bit more how you create the wakes?
I have one of these on my private lake, but the chopper is currently undergoing maintenance…

The wakes don’t seem to diverge enough for a yacht with such a large displacment, also the water line seems perfectly linear, when the wake from the bow would produce what’s know as a Kelvin wave pattern that is relative to speed of the vessel…

The fiberglass also seems a bit to reflective and lacking any variation from the construction process.. everything has a little grunge… take a close look at the top of the Maltese Falcon, you’ll see a hint of variation through out the material…

Some deck chairs and tables would add life to the decks. The Helicopter pad would have some type of markings indicating where is should land…
Great job overall, can’t wait to go cruising again on my yacht… it’s a wopping 24’, I’ll have to get a little RC helicopter for it now…

Kramsurfer - thanks for the pointers to that website, will try and go into a little more detail with the wake next time (time permitting).
No fibreglass on this one, only painted steel/aluminium I avoid making anything look dirty because I just know what the clients comments would be. They’re always expecting to see things crisp and clean. I’ve even had one request (on another project) to remove the reflection of the yacht from the water because it made the water look dirty… I’ll try a very slight noise next time and see if anyone notices.
Re the heli landing ‘H’ - for this yacht the landing area isn’t a dedicated heli pad, just a touch down area so we were asked not to put the H, but they wanted to show that a helicopter could fit.
Unfortunately we didn’t have any time to add deck details for this project, had to be completed in 7 days for a presentation
