Hi,
Does V-Ray for Unreal support movable/changeable objects?
I would like the flexibility to open doors, move furniture and change materials at run time (i.e. in the finished packaged project).
Many thanks
Graham

Hi, Graham
Currently V-Ray for Unreal doesn’t work in a packaged game, meaning you cannot get a V-Ray render from inside a game. You can still package a project with imported vrscenes, with V-Ray materials and lights, but the packaged project will use Unreal’s renderer. You can use Unreal’s sequencer to render out animated objects using V-Ray, swapping materials is not yet supported.

Alexander
Hi Alexander,
Thank you for your reply.
Am I correct in assuming that V-Ray for Unreal is not intended for baking light maps then?
Please note: I am not intending to run a packaged game and then start creating still image V-Ray renders from it.
I was instead hoping that I could bake light maps in Unreal using V-Ray’s superior rendering and then proceed to package the game as normal.
Many thanks
Graham
Hi, Graham
I am sorry that I misunderstood your question. You can bake lightmaps with V-Ray. You can check the docs here for more information: V-Ray Bake.
Best regards,
Alexander
Thank you, Alexander.
Looking at the information on that “V-Ray Bake” page, it appears to suggest that movable objects are not supported, but it is not very explicit about it being a serious limitation.
Quote from page:
“Please check the following before V-Ray Bake:
* Set all Actors and Light in level to Static”
1) Is this limitation something that can be worked around or will movable lights/actors cause problems or crashes? (I can’t test it myself as trial ran out months ago)
2) Do you know if movable object support will appear in a future version or are there technical reasons that prevent its implementation?
Many thanks
Graham
