Anyone know how to make a CORTEN type rusted metal material?

I am trying to get something like this.

I started out with the blurry metal material, and changed the reflection and refraction colors, and added a bump map. But it still doesn’t look anything like CORTEN.

If anyone can help me out, that would awesome.

CorTen has so little reflection it’s not worth having any in Vray and why would you apply refraction to an opaque material? On top of that the bump map would be so fine it’s probably not worth applying. I’d just find/make a good texture map and maybe apply a bump map if absolutely necessary- the hardest part is getting a texture map which tiles, but which shows the gravitational effect of weathering on CorTen.

I agree, and if you make your texture bigger than the largest sheet of metal (given that the sheets have finite size) then it shouldn’t be too difficult to make a texture. If you know where there is some corten, then you can take your own photo, or you could adapt a texture from say http://www.cgtextures.com/ etc.

Thanks for the responses. I ended up taking a photo I took of Corten, and making a texture out of it. It turned out pretty well I think.

Where can I find the .VISMAT material for Corten Steel? I just found on the net the .C4D and .MAT extensions..

Seeing as this thread is a year old and “loac” only ever posted twice, I think it’s unlikely that he’ll respond now.

As Danger Oux explained, you don’t even need a vismat for corten steel as it doesn’t require reflection, refraction or bump, just a decent rust image which can found easily with Google, Flickr or a camera.
