Besicly, not using after burn or aura…is there a way to make decent clouds with procedurals?
I read that on the day after tomorrow they mapped a lot of the clouds as displacement with some after burn…so if anyone has any ideas please share here is what i got :
I know it is cruel… it may be on of the best procedural volumetric rendering engine around (which is why alan won an oscar for it), but it is not available to the public.
It is not Hyper Voxels… It is something else, and it is proprietary. It is officially called Storm, and it only works inside Houdini. It is procedural… and it is not for sale… sorry. But you will be able to see some really cool clouds in the upcoming movie called Stealth.
no… but you can see examples of it in movies… think the water horses from LOTR, the twisters and white water from Day After Tomorrow, the Avalanche in triple X, etc… it actually can do a lot more then that, but those are just obvious hero things it was used on…
lol…maybe if you ask a fifth time they’ll say yes. Im sorry, but he said its proprietary and not for sale… Pretty please with sugar on top aint gonna help.
yeah… sorry.. that was why I used the word “cruel” a few posts back… which it is. It is not helpful to you at all. So I’m really just waisting everyones time. Sorry everyone.
well percy its like this:
Question - can one make clouds in 3ds max?
Answer - Well it can be done in other software which you cant get or use
so whats the point of answering?
i know that not only storm, but lightwave, maya and probably xsi have somesort of eather hyper voxels, or fluid dynamics.
My original question was and still is “Can you make procedural clouds in 3ds max”
does anyone know how blizzard made these clouds in this trailer? i mean this was done back in 1999, when fluid dynamics didnt exist as they are today. http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/war3/demos/War3\_1999\_ECTS\_Trailer.zip
Check out this trailer and see what i mean.
I remember a while back there was a cloud plugin that would do decent volumetric clouds…but it was so long ago i dont remember its name.
