API error detected in ./VRayNodes/VRayParticleTex.cpp at line 64

I’m getting this error when rendering from VFB with nightly builds since 16421 on windows x64 maya 2012.
Even though the render appears to work correctly, the error message repeats endlessly until I close maya.
The full message is

API error detected in ./VRayNodes/VRayParticleTex.cpp at line 64
: (kInvalidParameter): Object is incompatible with this method

Build 16348 is the last one I tried that does not have this error (I only download the latest build each monday though).

Does this sound like a problem with the builds or something at my end?

edit: Actually I just noticed these errors start as soon as the vray plugin is loaded, so not caused by VFB as I first thought.

This is fixed for the next night build tomorrow, sorry about that.

Thanks. Seems to be working now.

Hey Djx,
How do you use the VRayParticleTex ?
Is it for sprites ? To control the scale/rotate of sprites ?

No, it has nothing to do with sprites. It’s a 3d texture that returns a different color based on the distance of the shaded point to the particles from a particle system.

Vlado

Thank you Vlado.
Currently we use Renderman or MentalRay to render sprites because rotate/scale doesn’t work with sprite in Vray.
Any plan about this ?
It is not urgent (because we can render).

Yes, it’s on the “to do” list; we’ll get to that.

Best regards,
Vlado
