Artifacts when appliying texture

Hey there.
Having this weird issue when applying a texture in vray. When i render out the exr sequence and open it in nuke everything looks fine.
When i export the whole sequence as a mov. file i get this weird outline around the letter almost like its glued on. Is this something what gets baked in in Vray somehow?
Another question would be what is the “correct” way to apply textures in Vray. I really tested a lot of stuff and the only one which kinda worked was the one with the “Vray TexLayeredMax” node-
Also tried out a triplanar projection with a rest attrib but with no success. Attached the basic setup with a hip and the texture. Any help/insights would be amazing. Thanks!

Hi @edwin_fuhrmann Thank you for contacting us!

I looked at the scene and it seems different than the one you get Outlines on. However, if the Output is correct when exported from Houdini and the outlines occur when exported from Nuke I would suggest double-checking the Nuke set-up.

Regarding the texturing question, simply add your texture into a V-Ray ImageFile node and connect it to a V-Ray Material node: http://ftp.chaosgroup.com/support/screenshots/houdini\_2024-05-14\_12-21-33.jpg

Hi @viktor_angelov , sorry for the delayed reply. The outlines stuf was caused during the nuke export and i was able to fix it.
Maybe my description of the problem was not accurate because i was referring to the whole process of applying a logo using some kind of alpha texture.
So not covering the whole geo with a texture but rather only a part of it with a logo. Was curious how the what would be the setup in Vray.

Hello @edwin_fuhrmann ,
There are a couple of ways you can achieve this effect:

Using V-Ray Blend Material:

  • Create a V-Ray Blend Material.
  • Create two materials and connect them to the Blend Material.
  • Insert your Alpha texture using a V-Ray Image File.
  • Connect it to the weight_2 socket in the Blend Material.

Example:

Using a V-Ray Decal:

  • Create a V-Ray Decal inside a Geometry node.
  • Create a Material (that will be used to project onto a surface):

a. You can use your Alpha texture by placing it in the Mask Texture slot of the V-Ray Decal.
Example:

b. For greater control over the texture, you can connect the Alpha texture as a V-Ray Image File in the Material’s Opacity socket.
Example:

  • Assign the material to the V-Ray Decal.
  • Position the decal so that it intersects the geometry you want to project onto.

Using a single V-Ray Material:
You can use the Opacity socket on a V-Ray Material with an Alpha Texture. Black values on the texture will make the Opacity = 0, and white values will make the Opacity = 1.
