Assembling Vray Scenes

Hello,

In our studio, we currently use the native xRef system in 3ds Max, but it’s quite outdated, buggy, and inflexible. I’ve been wondering if anyone has tried or knows whether it’s possible to assemble different parts of scenes using VrayScene. For example, we have a main file that contains several Vray scenes (architecture_HERO.vrscene, landscape.vrscene, greenery.vrscene), each saved by exporting from a dedicated Max scene.

Recently, I’ve delved into Pixar’s USD and am very excited about how well-organized and effective it is, especially for teamwork. I was looking to implement something similar in 3ds Max. I know there is a USD plugin for 3ds Max, but it is still in development and offers quite limited functionality.

Hi,
did you tried containers?

Yes, i have tried it 10 years ago, and it was not very useful, and it’s not updating as I can see

whether it’s possible to assemble different parts of scenes using VrayScene
It is but it is not very intuitive or user friendly. You will need a deep understanding of vrscenes. Please take e look at these docs pages :
- Transferring Materials and Scenes Between Different Platforms
- VRayScene
- Scene Manager
- Exporting and Using V-Ray Scene Files
If you can’t manage on your own please open a ticket so we can assist you with your specific case.

Thanks. Pitty that Scne Manager it’s only for Maya, but we work in 3ds max
