I have the earlier HD 2900 XT and I’m pretty happy with it. If I had spare cash I would get this card for my next pc.

A heads up on the GTX 260:

We have one in the office right now and it works fine in max. Just be aware if you’r an Autocad user, it chrashes all the time when you use directx or opengl in Autocad. We had to set it to software mode to stop the crashing. Might be a driver issue though, waiting for new drivers to come out now.

Two things… I haven’t heard a definite answer that 3d studio supports any SLI (or Xfire) implementation. And I’ve also never seen a definitive answer that answers whether or not a dual chip card (i.e., any “x2”) is seen by the application as a sli setup (since it’s using two GPU’s) or as a single card (well, since it’s a single card). Basically, I’m asking if for applications that may not use SLI (i.e., Max not games) if there’s any advantage for an “x2” card. If the answer is “no” then you’d be best off dropping down to the standard HD4870 at half the cost for the same performance. Any one know answers to the above? I’d like to know as I’m contemplating an upgrade some time soon as well.
