AUDI TT-update-NEW

Hi again!
Like I said to gesmith, it’s always fun to render a car.
It’s not a perfect rendering, but some kind of nostalgy got me, regarding
the days when I was asking myself, if I will be able to render anything…
Thanks gesmith, for remind me to have fun! I need that!

Re: AUDI TT

hey my friend, its perfect!
really like it
any tutorial u can make?
thanks!
those hdri really is a great help

Re: AUDI TT

Hi migz! I’m glad you like it, but I don’t think it’s perfect, you are
too kind, and really it’s not big deal, I don’t think you need an tutorial
for that…it’s just a car model, and one big plane with some concrete
texture on it. And one good HDRI file, of course
I better upload the entire scene, with the concrete texture and the HDRI
file for you, if you want to have some fun, like I did!
The model it’s not perfect, I get some polygons missing, but it’s not too
obvious..and the concrete it’s not so good (the map) it’s kind of repetitive
maybe you can put something else over there.
The yellow one it’s a clone of the other car, because I didn’t decide
what color to put on it, so I made two cars, with it’s not a bad idea.
OK too much talk, I think you will have fun with that, all the other
materials came with the car and it’s just colors, I just tweak a little bit
the tires, the chrome, and of course the car-paint, witch I have fun
with that, just put two reflections on the material, and change to the
second one the filter color, or the color of Fresnel. You will get some
“pearl” color!
Good luck, and don’t forget: HAVE FUN!!!

Re: AUDI TT

stef may i know how do u put the background image? Do u use photo match or wht?

Re: AUDI TT

Hi nick, it’s just a HDRI map. Just a plane, two cars and a good HDRI map
in skylight and environment. I start an low settings render, for 2-3 times,
to match the perspective of the model with hdri map, since you are not able to
see it in sketchup view-port. Check the link above, you have there the entire
scene, with the maps too.

Re: AUDI TT-update

Re: AUDI TT-update

What software did you use to model the cars??

Re: AUDI TT-update

Ckosio, I didn’t model those cars, I just import an 3ds model.

Re: AUDI TT-update-NEW

Finally… with some shadows…
Hope that you like it guys, it was a nice experience!
Any C&C will be great!

Re: AUDI TT-update-NEW

Silly question:

How do you add shadows on the scene? With a retangular light? With default light?

Second question:

Do you think interior scenes can be done with HDRI method?

See ya!

Cheers!

Re: AUDI TT-update-NEW

Kgoku, it’s not a silly question! I have hard day too in order to get the shadows…but it’s simple, just activate the default lights, witch is the sun.
My problem was to set it from the correct direction, so I had to select all,
and rotate by 180, to get the shadows from the left. Also, I lower the multiplier of the HDRI map from the GI(skylight)slot, from 1 to 0.7.
My first goal when I start to use HDRI; was to get nice interiors, but I don’t get good results… I will try again, I think it’s not impossible, but what I know for shore, is that the lighting information from the HDRI file must enter the room as much as possible.

Re: AUDI TT-update-NEW

I´m doing some tests with this scene with some interior shots. I build a 12m² room to teste HDRI and i´m elarning good things.

The first thing is what you said. HDR ilumination don´t bounce too much from holes (windows) so i had to use 7 in the GI SKYLIGHT multiplier slot. I left the PC rendering yesterday but in the dawn the PC rebooted by itself and i lost the test. I´ll try again today and post it tomorrow morning.

See ya!

Re: AUDI TT-update-NEW

Ok. A Low res just for comments. See how even with high multiply i got a very dark room (too openings from the viewer) and lots of dark spots in the back.

But doors are opening for me with HDRI. ahaha!

See ya´ll on the next rendering.

Re: AUDI TT-update-NEW

Nice test, I 'm glad that you are interested in that direction. The result it’s fine, it has a ‘richness’ that can’t be achieved with regular lights, but you should agree
that is only GI there, like an ambient lightning, and only thing we should add now is the direct light, for stronger shadows.I’ll make some tests again in weekend.I’m busy at work now, so I can’t do it right away.

Stefan

Re: AUDI TT-update-NEW

Hi stefanq…
Thanks a lot for ur help
I’ve already try working with HDRI and the background plane mapping…
But How dan I reduce the light with default camera?
Sorry for the boring model heheheh…don’t have much time I’m just just a newbie..

Re: AUDI TT-update-NEW

ANother one. Is there a easy way to fit the images with HDRI? All other images i try always look SO BIG in scene. I downloaded a lot of HDRI images but all of them seem so big that don´t reflect right. I don´t know what to do because just rotate (horizontal or vertical) don´t solve this issue.

Cheers hdri folks! 8)

Re: AUDI TT-update-NEW

Hi Nick! When I made the last render( the one with shadow) I
enabled the default light, so since I already had a good lightning from HDRI file, I just make the multiplier of that
hdri( from GI Skylight tab) smaller @ 0.7 if I remember, in order to compensate the amount of light from the default light(sun). So I suppose that you only have to do the same thing, but only in skylight.
You can try also to use the physical camera, but remember to raise the multiplier of the HDRI file @ 1000, or more, for having more control through the exposure controls.
Ooh…regarding your rendering… it looks odd…the mapping of the HDRI I mean…make shore that you mapped the file correct, as “environment” and
“spherical” as mapping type, since that particularly HDRI it is a “spherical map”
Kgoku, I really don’t know what to say…I still try to catch all the aspects of the HDRI, still learning myself, that’s why I was so happy seeing other people interested in that direction.. So far I got lucky with my HDRI, but what I try is that I search the appropriate one, that seams to match somehow with my scene. You should also try to find some feedback on google about the HDRI, because not all are the same, there are many type, so you should know what kind are yours, for correct mapping for example because I have the same file, but with many other type of that file, like “spherical map” “light probe” “blurred light probe” horizontal cross" etc. so I don’t really know what to do with those maps… what I know is that all except the “spherical” ones are smaller.
I know that what I said it’s not really help you, but honestly hope that you will not give up, and still experiment in that direction, witch is very useful for all of us. Remember that I don’t receive any feedback about HDRI , just search on google, and try to understand what I can, so I’m not an expert like migz call me, just a newbie who’s trying to do better and better. Just like you, right? So why don’t we make this road together, it will be much easier, right?
Regards,
Stefan

Re: AUDI TT-update-NEW

Hi there!

I´m doing some research on google about that topic. I finally “get it”, now i just need to be able to repeat the results i want anytime and in any situation.

I used a retangular light in my previous interior scene and discovered more things. The first one is that the time render increase a lot, HOURS to render the same scene. The second one is almost the same as you did with skylight: low values (i used 7).

About the position i download a lot of HDRI images (some Good ones on evermotion) and tested all of them even resizing on photoshop. I got the same lame results.

This is a good tutorial with almost the same thing we are doing here. I feel so bad knowing that there are so many tutorials on 3dstudio´s Vray and so few on SketchuP.

See ya´ll.

Re: AUDI TT-update-NEW

Hi stefaq…
Thanks for the input…
I’ve already try …but I tried with default cam…and this is the result.. First the shadow is to sharp…then I edit with PS.
Humm but I think in interior case I cannot use the physical cause I cannot get the sun effect in the room, heheh if It is true (newbie) ;D…please the C&C.

Re: AUDI TT-update-NEW

How did you fit the image? I was looking to your last render and something changed.

SO far i think the best sun effect is achieve doing a retangular light off scene (because you can control the color either).
