Auto exposure with object list or reference geo

Hi,

It would be great to have more options for auto exposure in the render rop. Specifically, I would like the ability to define an object selection or group as the target for the auto exposure calculation.

I’m aware that this can be done manually using a render mask, but I’m looking for a solution that works automatically across many frames, especially when the reference objects or groups change.

Would it be possible to implement this?

Or is there another workaround that I might have missed?

In my case, I’m rendering a changing scene automatically over many frames, and I need the auto exposure to adjust itself to the respective reference object before each frame — without any manual intervention.
As I understand it, the mask workflow is more suitable for individual frames. However, I need to render thousands of frames where the scene changes continuously, and the auto exposure needs to adapt accordingly.
Doing this manually would take far too much time.

An example of such a changing scene would be a room where the windows — and therefore the lighting conditions — change. From one frame to the next, there might be less light on the reference object, and this should be corrected by the auto exposure.
Essentially, I want more control over what the auto exposure is based on, and I’d like that target to update automatically before each frame.

Does that make sense, or should I explain it in more detail?
