Back to Beauty GI mismatch from render inside nuke

Hi,

I am trying to use the basic back to beuty worfklow in nuke. Even this basic setup gives me a different result.
This is pretty clearly coming from the GI pass.

Right now I am wondering which render settings could be responsible for breaking the GI AOV.

We also tried other AOV back to beauty workflows with the same result-it always comes down to a mistmatch when compared to the rgb.

I will try to setup a sphere test scene to get some more info-maybe its scene setup related.

for now any hints appreciated.
thanks!

attached example scene and screenshots.
note that we use denoiser and dwaa compressed exr-dont think its related, just mentioning

alright, found the problem. its the shadow wrapper material in my scene adding additional GI to the render it seems.
Wondering if this is by design and i use it wrong or if this is a bug?
when i disable GI on shadow wrapper rgb and back to beauty align, but overall GI is lower

seems like shadow wrapper introduces some issues but the underlying problem is not the wrapper.
Even with basic shader setup i get super bright GI which doesn´t combine correctly back to beauty.
Attached the test scene. screenshot of GI and rgb. From the screenshot (VFB) alone its obvious that if plussing this over the result will be too much GI.
Not sure what i do wrong.

sorry for spamming - i compared a vanilla maya vray scene setup (working btb) and noticed a difference in the GI Tab when i compare with the not working scene.
n the scene that is not working i see a “GI - advanced” Tab?! Could not find any docmentation for that…

yes that was it…was this a legacy setting? we switched recently from vray 5 to 7

Hi!

Yes, these settings were deprecated with version 5. If you open old scenes where those settings were adjusted, the settings would remain so that rendering for older assets is as consistent as possible. If you still want to adjust them in newer scenes there is a way through mel scripts. Do you think you’ll need to adjust those settings in your new scenes?

Thanks for the confirmation Petya.
I never even used the advanced GI settings in vray 5 so i am actually glad they are gone now
No need to use them in vray 7
