Backgrounds

It would be nice to have backgrounds in Vantage. Like a mapped cylinder / sphere with different textures - cities, fields and etc. Now we can add the cylinder with opacity, but you cannot exclude it from the sun, and it looks weird that one part is shadowed and another is lit.

You can set a background image in the environment settings panel (scroll down to the bottom). Does this not work for you, at least for the spherical case?

I’d like to use VRaySky with clouds and background like cutout trees and buildings.

Have you tried using the cast/receive shadows options for the cylinder/sphere object ?

Yes, but with it turned off it is still affected by the sun, which makes it different brightness. Maybe you can guide me for the best practices for this kind of background? In VRay I’d just exclude it from gi completely with sun or dome light and use VRayLightMtl and adjust the brightness to match.

Doesn’t this work in Vantage ?

Maybe I am doing something wrong, but the background is lit/with shadows. Is this setting transferred with the scene or it should be set separately in Vantage?

Does it work if you use the texture as emissive instead?

Can you attach a simple max file that shows this issue ?
