This has been plaguing me for six months. I am not sure if it is a MAX thing, a MAX 2024 things, or a V-Ray thing. I first reported it about brick bump maps, but it is everything. One side renders good; the other side doesn’t. Everything is textured the same, with the same material, but the geometry on the left renders wrong. It is always the angled parts. UVW map rotated. Is there a bug, a fix, or is it something I am doing wrong?
Hi,
I have encountered something very similar too.
Do you have some imported geometry?
What worked for me was to use Edit normals modifier and reset all the normals.
See if that works for you too.
These are Revit imports. I will try to reset the normals - I think I already tried that, but I’ll try again.
Yeah, exactly the case I had.
Should solve it.
No, didn’t help. So frustrating!
Can you save selected some of the affected parts and attach here?
In 3ds max, sometimes when using geometry from non-3dsmax applications like sketchup, revit, etc. I will convert the object to an editable patch, then convert back to editable mesh/poly. This definitely clears out any weirdness in rotated vertexes, normals, etc. I don’t like the triangulated editable patch results so after converting back to editable mesh I will hit auto edge with a setting of 1 or 2. I’ll do a number of objects at one time to speed things up.
One other thing, sometimes this works. Create a simple 3ds max primitive, convert to editable poly/mesh and then attach your Revit object. Then delete the primitive.
A pain I am sure, I generally isolate and remodel items like this, it gives a clean mesh to work with. Time I know but it does work out better long term.
Years ago… Form Z issues like this, you exported the mesh as a DXF ( I know) and reimported it, and it cleaned it up.
I think I tried export/import, but that didn’t work. I might have to model those extra parts manually.
I do believe I tried that, but I will try it again.
I will give that a go - thank you!
I remember the FormZ days. Started on FormZ - renderzone in 1995. Honestly, in my workflow I usually reskin every imported geometry (I just use Revit/FBX as a guide). It takes extra time and budget in the beginning, but guarantees no artifacts, coplanar surface/objects (the worst offender), and it’s in a clean format. But, sometimes in a hurry I will just go with the fbx data and do the above procedure. Feel free to share the data. Happy to help.
Weren’t all the faces unwelded on import? I remember around 2000 we were struggling with that issue. After 10 years of use, we gave up FormZ in about 2004 (around the same time vray beta came out), but FormZ was a fantastic tool for 3d printing back in those days.
I will check the next time I import. We import FBX
I tried everything and even modeling the part over didn’t help. There is a bigger issue here. Here are the pasts in question.
Axis A.rar (14.5 KB)
Is that texture done with procedural noise?
