Bad render Quality for curves (Vectorworks/Enscape)

Hi to all of you

I am facing a Problem while using Vectorworks, together with Enscape:

When I open a project from Vectorworks in Enscape, I often run into an issue where custom curves drawn in Vectorworks (extruded circle) appear faceted or blocky.
So far, I haven’t found an ideal solution. Setting the 3D conversion resolution in Vectorworks to “Very High” is the most commonly suggested fix, but unfortunately, it doesn’t work in my case. A workaround that does work is drawing a regular polygon with 120 or more segments instead of a circle, but that isn’t ideal for mapping textures properly.

It looks like this is primarily a background communication issue between Vectorworks and Enscape rather than a mistake in how I set up my models or workflows. Since the software currently limits how geometry data and OpenGL settings are passed through the bridge, it clearly needs to be resolved by the software developers on both sides.

I really hope a solution for this issue can be found very soon. Since we started using Enscape, our rendering output in the company has increased significantly, which is fantastic! We genuinely love using the tool and want to rely on it heavily in the future—so getting this problem with curved geometry fixed would be a game-changer for us.

Thank you for your help in advance!

At some point the “vector” data has to be made into a mesh, so the faceting is inevitable to some degree.

Similar things happen in revit too with parametric curves.

I asked a colleague who works in vectoworks and he said that the resolution option to high is usually enough, then there is also another setting in shading settings that he increases which he seemed to think might help.

He then said that if a specific object is stubborn, then converting that to a mesh will be the last option.

Hi @Alvar_Diggelmann ! Welcome to our forum!

First, we’re happy to hear that your company has had such a good experience with Enscape!

Secondly, we have a control in Vectorworks that might help this issue, and that’s the Curved Geometry Quality setting:

When you click the Enscape icon in your toolbar, you’ll see this appear in the Active Settings section of Vectorworks. The default setting is “Medium,” but adjusting it to “High” should improve this.

Let me know if this helps or not!

Thank you very much for your Response, I will check what I can do
