Beautiful Mistake

Doing some scripting work for my thesis, and this was what came out of it. Looped through it too many times, but I thought it came out with something cool. Completely useless for my thesis, but cool none the less. Just GI, no materials…I might do something more later, but for now its just a beautiful mistake.

Re: Beautiful Mistake

Agreed! Great mistake! ;D

This wasn’t a mistake but I really didn’t know where it was going when I started it. It just kinda happened.

Re: Beautiful Mistake

Thats pretty cool looking…That almost looks like a subdivision lattice from what was originally a geodesic…or do I just have geometry on the brain ;D…I think that would be a great piece of jewelry, just got to find the right place to put the gems

Re: Beautiful Mistake

you are correct sir. It started out as a dodecahedron and just got stranger and stranger from there until i was like “saaweet!”.

Re: Beautiful Mistake

Same root dodecahedron and more silliness.

Re: Beautiful Mistake

Sign me up for that stuff man…very cool…just needs a gem ;D

Re: Beautiful Mistake

nice stuff!

well, i guess while we are on the subject… here’s a couple i did a while back.

Re: Beautiful Mistake

Wow man…crazy stuff…I love it…

How did you actually model some of those? Were they algorithmicly generated? did you use T-splines for any of those, or all they all meshes?

Re: Beautiful Mistake

Seriously cool stuff, looks like something you’d find in a modern art gallery.

Re: Beautiful Mistake

thanks a lot for the kind words!

no t-splines. they were all created based off of a basic geometric solid. then subdivided and subdivided some more. similar process as t-splines, but done manually. all a product of playing, and all by accident… :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Beautiful Mistake

thanks… “art by accident” … i can live with that!

;D

Re: Beautiful Mistake

What program are you using to do this kind of stuff? Really cool!

Re: Beautiful Mistake

Well Beautiful Mistake is going to be in a show!!

Its actually just my friend’s show that he puts on @ his house every once and a while, but it made some guy’s blog, so I guess that makes it legit  we were hanging some of the stuff last night and a lot of it is really good.

Re: Beautiful Mistake

… great sryff guys … :o
how can be created such a procedural geometry in Rhino ?

:o :o :o :o :o

Re: Beautiful Mistake

very cool modeling people

New plug-in for Rhino : crazy!

I love your work! Check out this site:
http://grasshopper.rhino3d.com/

For designers who are exploring new shapes using generative algorithms, Grasshopper™ is a graphical algorithm editor tightly integrated with Rhino’s 3-D modeling tools. Unlike RhinoScript, Grasshopper requires no knowledge of programming or scripting, but still allows designers to build form generators from the simple to the awe-inspiring.

One example from the same site :

Re: Beautiful Mistake

Yea, Grasshopper’s cool…I’ve been messing with it since the day David put it up on the Rhino Wiki (when it was EH). I’ve done a few tutorials for it and have a few you tube videos as well…Check em out if you want.
