Best approach for producing rectangular LEDs

Here is a sample real world image:

What would be the best approach to producing these sorts of glowing LEDs with bleedover to adjoining LEDs due to bloom/glare?

I guess you could try and lower the refraction glossiness of the glass and have those led “separators” (vertical lines) modeled so that they aren’t part of the glass. Then you can use a bunch of Corona lights with Xpresso to drive the animation

a quicky challenge

  • LED is a plane with Emissive shader on (used Cloner to control/animate number of LEDs ON) & can be replaced with Corona Light
  • white translucent plane to difuse
  • gradient color translucent plane over to define colors

A very novel and interesting approach! I will give it a try and see if it can be improved upon for additional realism.
