Black marks on animation

I was rendering an animation and the I started getting black marks down the side. Here is a sample frame -

It only happens when the camera is close to an object and the irr map is incrementally calculated. The next frame from this one is a new incremental add and is clean.

Obviously I could calculate the irr map for every frame the camera is near an object, but I would rather not.

Is this a bug in 1.45 or is there a solution which will allow me to carry on with incremental add to irr map?

Hey dude … Leave it on Incremental add and calc the frame that are missing … looks like you mucked it up somwhere along the line…

Hey Natty,

Thanks for the help. Wish I knew what I was doing wrong…

Zap

tell your process of what you have done ..

I’ve created the scene (obviously! ) and set up a camera path taking the it thru the front door and into the room to explore it. The camera starts on the street and pass thru the door way (door is open) and at that point I get these black marks. Vray is setup to calculate the irr map every 10 frames (this problems comes up when it’s every two frames!!).

It’s happened before when the camera is close to an object.

To be honest I’m stumped. :?

well what you could try is render it again … the imap that is .. but this time start a fresh and do it every 15th frame then merge the two maps together … mail me and i’ll send you the new Imap viewer.. and merger..hopefully that will solve your probelm.

It looks like what happened was when doing the incremental map, it missed that area of the model, because it didn’t hit a frame where that area was visible, so, since lighting data is missing, you get a black splotch where the missing data is

I was just checking the bug report threads and I think I found the solution to my problem. I’m currently doing some test renders to check. It’'s the limit search range that may be causing it. Fingers crossed this is the solution!

Does anyone know the perpose of this Limit search …it seems to cause more problems ???

I would imagine that it makes things faster when it works, by the name I guess that it will drop samples that fall out of a certain distance or out of the cameras view, total conjecture on my part though :stuck_out_tongue:

Whatever it does, it fix the problem I was having & render times are ok.

How do you set it to calculate the irradiance map every x amount of frames?

Theo, here’s all the info you’ll need to get started - http://www.vray.info/entry.asp?entryID=94

Ah ok. So you have to render 2 separate occasions, first the irradiance map, then the final renders. I was hoping there was a way you can do it all in one command, like tell it to render 500 frames, but only do GI for every 5th frame.

yeah you can Theo … In the globals … Do not render final image.
