blend MTL is black viewport 2.0

Is there a workaround for blend materials showing up as pure black in the viewport when using viewport 2.0?
They look fine with legacy viewport.
It isn’t an issue with normals or two-sided lighting.

It’s just painful not being able to see anything or using much-slower legacy viewport
All other VRay shaders display correctly
I’m using Maya 2018

Agreed!

Even base material or a lambert would be a good workaround.

This is a known issue which we are working on. As soon as we fix it I’ll let you know.

This is already in our “to do” list. Thank you for mentioning it.

Just wanted to bump this thread since this is still an ongoing issue

It makes using vray with Maya really painful. We use a lot of blend materials

The base material should be displayed. Is it still showing black ?

have the same issue. the materiel viewer is black on all vray materials. also no swatches, just black.

maya 2019 vray next update 2

problem solved! I reinstalled maya and vray now all is working fine!

It still doesn’t work, even with latest nightly vray build and fresh installs of Maya 2019.2 and 2020

Maya 2020 has removed the legacy viewport, so now the only way to display anything in the viewport is to go to:
shading--> use default material - which is pretty annoying

It’s been almost a year now…

If you use textured view (Shading > Hardware texturing) it should display the base material of the blend. Does this work?

Yes the base layer does show in viewport when enabling hardware texturing. But I would still like to see the blend material work with layers and masks in viewport. Is it still something you’re working on?

We need to see what Maya allows us to do for the viewport.
