[Bug Report] Light cache issues.

Hi,

I’ve noticed that the new type of light cache generates quite a bit of strange light leaks and overall the lighting looks wrong.

Here’s what I mean - https://www.dabarti.com/screens/s7df84629-bb46-49f7-9cc7-0e8a96ead080V.png

On the right I changed the size to world (with maxscript) and the strange light leaks are gone.

The thing is that with new settings it’s not possible to change that in UI, so I guess that screen size is the recommended setting. But even with higher subdivs the light leaking is present. Here’s the same thing with 2500 subs:

They look like glossy reflections to me.
If i turn off the specular component, the image renders as attached.
If you consider this leaky, would you kindly point them out, Tomasz? (not being testy, just we may have differing views of what is good and what isn’t.)

The scene I sent might have Light Cache size changed to “world” and as I pointed in my first post, the leaks are gone there. Try default settings with “screen” type.

To make it even more obvious. I rendered it once more without reflections and with single light:

Default V-Ray settings. LC size default.

And here’s world size. Setting this through renderers.current.lightcache_scale = 1

Hope this helps.

Ah! yes, i see it now, a sphere where the sample sizes for the hash map change.
Thanks for the report!

I have a fix for this, just doing a few tests before pushing it to the nightly builds.

Best regards,
Vlado

@vlado Any chance of getting that fix into the builds? I’m testing GPU LC and it keeps showing up in some some scenes.

Best,
Tomasz

I’ve been testing LC GPU and found case where this issue is showing up. I’ve attached the scene in case you guys want to test out the fix.

Hey guys,

Any news on fix for that? This bug shows up in animations from time to time and it looks pretty bad.

Here’s an example of one case - https://dabarti.com/stocks\_preview/08793\_8793\_1031\_Smart\_SH\_0147\_Spy\_Insect\_v003\_Cam\_001\_720p.mp4

When camera moves back you can see the artifacts on the wall.

Best,
Tomasz
