Cannot create V-Ray Node Material via Python in C4D 2025.2 / 2026.1

Hello Chaos Team,

I am trying to automate the creation of V-Ray Node Materials using Python in Cinema 4D 2025.2.1 (and 2026.1) using V-Ray 7.20.00. (and previously, 7.10.00)
C4D has this lazy loading feature that only pushes the plugin to its registry on specific UI events, like vray material creation and so on. I’m pretty sure I tried everything to trigger the push, but to no avail…
Despite V-Ray being the active renderer and having a V-Ray Node Material manually present in the scene, the Python API consistently fails to recognize the V-Ray Node Space ID.

Would it be too much to ask for a simple python script for the C4D Script Manager that adds a single V-Ray Node Material to the scene?

Hi viktor_szemes,

To help you access our node materials, you can refer to Maxon’s official documentation here:
https://developers.maxon.net/docs/py/2025\_3\_1/manuals/manual\_graphdescription.html

In addition, you’ll need our Node Space ID:
com.chaos.class.vray_node_renderer_nodespace

For more detailed information about the IDs of individual nodes and ports, you can check the JSON file we installed here:
<c4d-plugins>/V-Ray/res/nodes/com.chaos.nodes.vray_node_renderer.db.json

Below is a sample script for creating a V-Ray Node Material:
Download the sample script

That works like a charm, thank you!
