Cannot Obtain License in MAX10_32

I have V-Ray 1.5 running fine on MAX9_32 on my main workstation. (This machine is also the license server). But when I try to set V-Ray as the renderer in MAX10_32, I get the ‘cannot obtain license’ message.

Is there something obvious I am missing?

Thanks!

Do you run them both at the same time? If you try to render an empty scene, what error code do you get in the V-Ray messages window?

Best regards,
Vlado

Vlado,

I never run more than one MAX app at a time. (I am using a V-Ray hardware dongle). When I run either MAX9_32 or MAX9_64, I can change the renderer to V-Ray 1.5 SP1 with no problem and render fine.

When I try to change the renderer in either MAX10_32 or MAX10_64, I get the could not obtain license message in the V-Ray panel.

If I render an empty scene after trying to change the renderer to V-Ray I get:

could not obtain license (-7)

Thanks!

Looks like you need to update the V-Ray license server from the latest build too.

Vlado,

Tania helped me fix the problem. I didn’t realize that each version of MAX had it’s own VRL license service. I was starting the MAX9 VRL service when I should have been starting the MAX2008 VRL service.

Since it does matter which VRL service is started, it might be helpful if the service name is changed in the VRL service title bar from

‘V-Ray Floating License Service’

to

‘V-Ray MAX2008-32 Floating License Service’.

Thanks again.

Well, if you always start the newer license service, it will work with older versions of V-Ray as well.

Vlado,

Ahhh… thanks for that info.
