Can't load vrayformaya plugin "The network name cannot be found"

I’m trying to install vray 3.6004 for Maya 2017 but when I try to load the plugin I just get:

// Error: line 1: Unable to dynamically load : C:/vray/maya_vray/plug-ins/vrayformaya.mll
The network name cannot be found.

I can’t find anything on this error in the docs or on google so I don’t know what might be causing the error or how to fix it.

It looks like a Maya error, not sure what it means.
Is this V-Ray installed with the regular installer? Something might be wrong with the installation, I’d suggest re-installing V-Ray.
