Carpaint?

Hi,

I have seen that there is a keyword for carpaint, but it looks like plastic. I expect some metallic effect like at my photoshoped example here. Could it be possible?

I mixed a metal with medium rough gloss finish to a clear plastic. I hope it’s possible since I miss it a lot. The mixture of diffuse color and metalic effect could be used for special bright metals like anodized aluminium (for example for door opener missed, if the clear finish is set at rough reflection).

@Micha Most cars are built out of painted plastic and that’s why we list Carpaint with Acryl → refer to our knowledgebase. You could try keyword “Metal” with a suitable Roughness in your Rhino material.

At render communities like from Vray carpaint means the special metallic material. Is a simple mixture of metal + diffuse + clear finish.

In the past I used at Vray a diffuse material layer at the bottom, above a 60% rough metall at transparency 30% and at the top a fresnel reflection.

Since we don’t have so much material controls for example at Rhino, I would be happy to see a material, that is using the diffuse color for diffuse/metall and the reflection controls for the clear finish fresnel coat. The metal layer roughness could be at an internal fixed value, also the addition of ~30% could be internal fixed.

The keyword library could be looking like this:

PS: One of the things I learned by testing keyshot in the past - metalic carpaint is an eyecatcher, good for render galleries.

I definitely have to agree with Micha here, the car paint material is a bit bland. Most of the work I do really doesn’t focus much on cars, so its not a problem, but it could be important in the future.

It is currently not possible to recreate a car paint material that looks like real car paint in Enscape.

Reason for that is that car paint gets its look through being a metal with a finish on it which makes it a layered material. We do not support layered materials yet but thats propaly a thing to be added in the future.

Sounds good. Enscape is a young product and there is a lot space to grow. So, for now I’m glad to bring it on the list.

Here a photo where I want to show for what I missed it - silver metallic car paint at a train interior everywhere.
