Caustics causing artifacts

I can’t for the life of me get caustics working in any shape or form. I get strange artifacts each and every time. I’ve tried several versions of Blender since 4.2, combined with different V-ray builds and CUDA drivers. Same results, slightly varied. The CPU does seem to render them normally and the problem seems to be on GPU only. Here are some screenshots from the latest 323 build on Blender 4.4, latest Geforce 576.52 Game Ready-Driver :

Let me know if you need additional info.

i can second this, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t

Well that’s a relief to know, i’ve been suspecting my GPU to be faulty or something since noone else on these forums seem to be reporting having these problems.

Really looking forward to a fix! V-ray is a dream compared to cycles in many ways so far.

i can agree, my workaround for stills has been to render everything in GPU then do my caustics completely separately in a CPU pass. i hide everything except for whats casting/receiving caustics

Same here - all default, i only rise the caustic subdivs to 40000. Cant get rid of these black splotshes. Is this still a GPU issure, or is there any settings to avoid this?

Oh sorry - Blender here… got it in max too

Just to confirm vray_71001 has the same issue with gpu. I have removed the liquid and subdivides here

A bit more joy today. Working in the latest release V2. Something that is apparent is that Chaos need to revisit the tutorial files. I had all sorts of issues, including crashes, over exposed renders with no clear reason why.

I ended up bringing the glass and table into a new scene — this did warn of dodgy materials.

This is by no means perfect, but something to work from.

What I am finding is that gpu doesn’t work for me. Maybe limitations of a 3070ti laptop card? I am also finding that I can only use progressive. Still with tweaking some interesting results and no visible artifacts.
