I am having a problem to play EXR sequences while my computer is rendering at the same time. When I try to play sequence then it plays in a slide show, not real time frames per second. It looks like Chaos Player doesn’t get enough process priority over V-Ray render in 3ds Max. When I previously used PDPlayer for such tasks it always played in real time FPS, even while computer was rendering. How can I make Chaos Player work correctly when computer is rendering?
So you’re saying this does not happen when not rendering? I presume if the render takes a lot of RAM, it might slow down ChaosPlayer and everything else. O̶t̶h̶e̶r̶w̶i̶s̶e̶,̶ ̶I̶ ̶d̶o̶u̶b̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶s̶l̶o̶w̶d̶o̶w̶n̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶l̶i̶n̶k̶e̶d̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶r̶e̶n̶d̶e̶r̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶p̶e̶r̶ ̶s̶e̶.̶
EDIT: Okay, I reproduced it.
After some testing and discussion with the product manager, this is something already known and inherited by PDPlayer. Basically, the Chaos Player is pretty generous when it comes to giving up its cache to other processes. We’ve got an improvement request already logged (internal tracker ID: CP-279). What should help is to reduce the percentage of free RAM (check screenshot).
Thanks. I will try to play with RAM adjustments but I think this is mostly the CPU process priority rather than RAM. As I said, PDPlayer has not such issue, only Chaos Player has it.
I’d probably leave the process priority at the default unless there’s a specific performance issue you’re trying to solve. Raising it can make the rest of the system feel less responsive, and in most cases it doesn’t make a noticeable difference. If playback is stuttering, I’d look at disk speed or GPU/driver settings first.
