As an otherwise happy Chaos Scatter user, I am baffled that animation hasn’t been priorities yet.
Please add randomize animation amount in start time and duration, maybe even add sequenced animation with adjustable overlap, based on instance id’s. Could be useful for motion graphics when scattering in grids etc.
Control animation with map similar to other transforms.
If I would like to create a billowing corn field, then I would animat one straw bending from frame 0-30. Next I animate the offset/phase of a huge noise map, which would drive the animation from frame 0 (black) to frame 30 (white).
Hi, thanks for posting. We will discuss your idea and get back to the thread.
Forest Pack has similar features in it’s animation rollout. Is this what you are looking for?
Hi Vladimir
Yes, something similar to what Forest Pack can do would be very nice.
The most important current lack in CS, is the ability to fake wind in trees and corn/grass fields based on a large noise maps or WorldSpace noise.
The most simple fix would be I animate my assets from frame 0 - No wind, to like frame 100 most extreme wind bend.
Then the animation is driven by the noise as to how far the assets gets to its most extreme wind bend.
If controlled by map, then black is frame 0 and full white is frame 100.
Then I would be able to control the wind strength by adjusting the levels of the noise map with a curve/output map. and Combine all sorts of the noise mpas to get random and natural behavior.
Hi, the feature is on our to-do list. It is registered under Scatter-145
If you have any recommendations about the functionality, you could share them here.
Thanks.
I’ve made a suggestion for Chaos Scatter on another thread, but this looks like a better place to share it.
The SurfaceSPREAD plugin for Cinema 4D by Laubwerk (no longer available to buy) had a very useful setting called Minimum Distance, which was similar to Avoid Collisions, but it calculated minimum spacing from the object axis, instead of the bounding box.
The axis-based Minimum Distance setting was particularly useful for randomly scattering plants at a specific minimum spacing (as instructed by the Landscape Architect), and showing how they look as they grow and begin to overlap eachother over time. This isn’t possible with the Avoid Collisions setting, as the object spacing isn’t precise, and the distribution is altered when the scattered objects change in size.
I think it would be helpful if Chaos Scatter had a Minimum Distance setting, either as an alternative mode to Avoid Collisions, or ideally as two separate functions that can be used in combination.
I imagine there are other situations where this level of control over minimum object spacing would also be useful.
Another very useful function of SurfaceSPREAD was the ability to use Cinema4D effectors with it, in the same way as the native C4D Cloner object. This allowed the same effector to be applied to multiple SurfaceSPREAD objects for master control over the randomisation and transformations. Perhaps that’s not possible with Chaos Scatter because it’s universal code shared across multiple host programs, but if it could be customised for C4D in this way it would be very powerful.
