Chaos Scatter Not Working in Revit 25

Good Afternoon - I am a new user having trouble getting the scatter function to work in Revit.

I have created a scatter geometry with a few different grass types. All of the parameters are set at their default values.

From there I’ve attempted to assign the scatter to a Revit floor. I start with the grass families (via Chaos Cosmos) on my desired surface. From there I open the appearance manager, navigate to the families tab, and open the scatter category. I then select the desired host floor within Revit and assign my scatter geometry to the surface.

And then - nothing. No families are added, no errors, nothing. I’ve followed the available tutorials from Chaos, but can’t find anything on YouTube or elsewhere covering this subject. I’ve also tried using surfaces created via mass, imported CAD surfaces, roofs, and toposolids - exact same result. Does anyone have any idea what I’m doing wrong here? All I’m trying to accomplish is a realistic grass lawn, so if anyone is aware of a better solution, I’d be interested to learn. I’ve also tried using the grass preset “fur” geometry to no avail. Much like with the scatter objects, I followed the prescribed process, but the fur does not appear in my renderings whatsoever.

Thanks!

Hello cole_williams,

There is a bug, and currently, Scatter applied to a legacy Toposurface or Toposolid Family used as a host does not work when the 2D - On Surfaces mode is selected.
The workaround is to use Toposolid Subdivisions as hosts, and 2D Scatter will work properly on them.

Please test this workaround and let me know if it works for you. Additionally, we will update you when there is a fix for this issue.
