Cleaning up material library

I have merged a series of files together, and now have duplicate names for materials. Sometimes, I have 5 instances of a material with the same name in the scene.

I remember seeing a script about this once. Is there a script or a tool that can help me combine all similar-named materials with just one of them?

shane.

Blur has one “kill duplicate materials” I think

No luck finding it.

Anyone have a link? The BlurBeta site doesn’t seem to have a link to the files anymore.

Shouldn’t there be something integrated into Max by now?

You can get it at www.scriptspot.com but only for Max 4.

anyone know if that script will work in a newer version of Max?

or have one that will?

i once wrote a small script just to clean mateditor from normal to Vray materials…

You can use that if you want, as is , or change some lines to get what you want…

BTW, without comparison routine , max has no way to define if a material is duplicated in the scene..

my script here .

Did you try the Max 4 one? It should work, scripts are not like plugins, for the most part they will work with any newer version.
