Color Management

Hi,

Could you help me with information or links with tutorials with color management setup for correct workflow in 3DsMax 2025+Vantage?

i worked in 3DsMax2024 + Vantage and it worked as usual. Several days ago i try to work in 3DsMax2025+Vantage. I opened old *.max scenes and exported them t Vantage and now they look different from 2024 version - textures and HDR lighting are more contrasting now. I tried to switch Color Management in 3dsmax for GammaWorkflow but it did not really help - i get different result but still too much contrast comparing with 2024 projects.

Could you show me correct settings for 3Dsmax2025 Color Management, Vray frame Buffer settings, Vantage display settings too? So it would work correctly.

Thank you.

Hi there

Please check this tutorial about the correct setup. Best is to set 3Ds Max color management to Gamma workflow and rely on V-Ray’s color management. Check out this tutorial by Mograph plus
In Vantage all you need to do is load the OCIO config file use the same ODT, you should get the exact same results.

If you are still having issues I can send you sample file + Sample Vantage file. Or we could have a short meeting to discuss the workflow

Muhammed

Hi,
isn’t there a more recent tutorial?

If I use the default OCIO settings for 3DS Max 2026, what settings should I choose in Vantage?

Hi,

i remember that video tutorial from Morgraph. It does not help for now as well as some other videos. I updated software and now it is difficult to decide how to work with projects ? with OCIO settings in 3DsMax i get different results when merging and opening some old projects with GammaWorkflow (sRGB).

I don’t really understand how to correctly set up map settings for correct display in the viewport and during rendering in Vantage (for different types of textures). Different tutorials show different settings.

It would be great to understand how to correctly set up color management in Vantage, Vray and 3dsmax, so that I can switch to this approach once in my work and not try to guess the right combination of settings every time.

Maybe there is an instruction or a tutorial where it is explained and said “THIS IS THE WAY” for color management.

By the way, the new Vray has a completely different scene converter and for me it is also poorly understood, especially in terms of automatic creation of new TX textures, many of which look completely different from the original textures. I would be grateful for such a tutorial.

I didn’t think that after many years of work I would feel stupid, but the situation is as it is.

Thanks

There seems to be an issue somewhere in 3Ds Max color management(I think). I’m testing on my side at the moment
I will update the thread soon.

Best,
Muhammed

Hello again!

We have a conclusion now and we know where the issue is. There is a bug on the Vantage side when 3Ds Max color management is active. On another note I will record a video on the typical ACES workflow in Max 2026 shortly, I hope it will be helpful

Best,
Muhammed

Thank you.
