i wish to be able to change the color of the light source …
As far as I know you can, in sketchup, apply material to light sources can change lighting color

As @Eric_Hsu mentioned, and I suppose you’re using SketchUp (judging from your posts), changing the light color is as simple as just making use of the paint bucket which appears after selecting a color in SketchUp → then simply apply that selected color to any light source.
