Color Point Cloud Rendering Support for Site/Existing Context

In the last few years, there have been a number of new tools that are allowing designers to capture existing context. At my firm, we regularly scan the site/building with a Matterport/Leica/or Drone which gives us a huge amount of very detailed color point cloud information which we can import into Revit via .rcp files. At the moment we are using these for reference in design and documentation but I always find myself wishing we could see these in our Enscape renderings/walkthroughs as the level of detail they provide for siting the building and showing unique elements is hard to beat. I have tried a workflow in 3dsMax for stills where it “puffs” the points turning each of them into a pixel and that yielded pretty good results, but very slow and doesn’t allow for a walkthrough. Not sure a process like this is possible with GPU rendereing in Enscape? If you could figure out a way to get this to work and export it as a renderable and walkable surface it would be very helpful.

Thanks,

Brad

Welcome to our Forum.

I’m afraid, while the ability to render point clouds is filed as a demanded feature request on our agenda, from a technical standpoint it was not really feasible yet.

I also have to add that there are no plans currently or in the near future when it comes to supporting point clouds, but please feel free to forward your request through our Enscape Public Voting Portal as detailed here.

For now, though, this may very well not be implemented anytime soon.

Demian,

Thanks for the quick response! sorry if I put this in the wrong place I will go ahead and post the idea over there though it sounds like you have it on your radar. I get that certain things are harder to implement than others.

Another thought and maybe this could be an intermediate step and I will add it to the transferred post: Using scans like these to generate custom entourage like if a client has some sort of corporate art or fountain that is very specific that we could scan and import as an entourage element.

Thanks again for the quick follow-up.

@bwitz , no worries at all, you posted it in the right area! The Public Voting Board is very new so, you could have not known about it yet really. And thank you very much for forwarding everything, our product management team will see and file it all down.
