Coming soon :- One click curtainwall

I thought I’d throw this one out to see if you had any suggestions for additional features for this script.

At the moment, it allows you to create curtain wall assemblies from a template editable mesh. The curtainwall objects are references of the base mesh so you can adjust cladding layout on the fly once the wall has been built.

At the moment, it only builds a standard frameless appearance curtainwall, but I intend to add various profiles and glazing types.

Any suggestions?

Gr8!!it looks awesome!
i m lookin forward!

I see more what you’re talking about now. I just assumed you were dealing with flat curtain walls. If you could script something that does this for any mesh, it would be truly awesome!

I modeled an elliptical glass greenhouse sited in Battersea park (near the herb garden) about a year ago, that could definitley benefit from such a tool.

It does work for any mesh. The only downside is if you have a sharp corner of say 90 degrees, the mullion doesnt look right… but for most render situations you won’t be able to see the problem… and if you do its pretty easy to repair the modelling.

Great Tool! Hope to get it soon.

looks good so far patrick. How does the scrit control coplaner faces where glass meets mulions? or does it leave a little gap?

Yes, the ‘settings’ tab has a ‘gap’ parameter which adds a small gap between elements to avoid coplanar faces. This is adjustable to suit whatever sampling setting your are rendering with…

I assume the more samples you use when rendering, the smaller the gap you can get away with?

I’ll also be adding a jitter parameter to add subtle random rotations to the panes to give them some nice variations.

That’s awesome.

 great script!!

nice one patrick, if you need a beta tester let me know, I would be happy to test it out

man…i wanted to do exactly the same script some time ago…
i suppose you’re using inset on editable poly.
i’m looking forward to it…hope it will be non-destructive (with modifier stack).

Wow! Where is it?!?!??!?

I can hardly wait!!!

Looks great…!

looks great man…I assume it works for Viz/Max… Sketchup??

Ok, here’s the beta version for you to try out. Please use at your own risk. Save all work before using!

Please note that this script only works on a mesh thats been converted to editable_poly.

The jitter and attach functions are not implimented yet.

I look forward to hearing your suggestions/bugs.

enjoy!

nice one patrick, has this script been tested in max 9 or is it max 8?

Hey Patrick, just tried to run the script in max 8 and it doesnt seem to work. Should a dialog box appear after the script is run?

Sorry if I’ve not mentioned this before,
You need to customise your toolbar. Find “reForm Utilities” then drag the script onto a toolbar. (add an icon if you wish)

Yep awesome !! 8)

So… this script is excellent.
What a time saver… and it’s all modifiable after the fact… bless you.

Where can I donate some cash to the cause?
