This is not to be confused with copying an image and passing it off as your own 3D Work.
I seen a few really nice posts of interiors that are inspirational to the point of me having a stab at creating similar - by this I mean I would copy the room layout and use similar materials, and see how close I get to the original image I, do you think it is akin to tearing out a page in an interiors mag (whilst in dentists waiting room ) and just having a go, is it a form of flattery to the original artist or is it a tad sinister,
I think it’s a great idea as an exercise. Trying to match reference photos is a good way to learn ways of setting up and lighting scenes to reach your desired output.
What are you thoughs of soley trying to recreate a 3d scene (not a photo)
Say Percy posts a sh1t hot interior image and I saw to myself, damm I would love an image like that’ so I go off and try to recreate, would you be pi$$ed with me trying to copy your design/colours/scene etc.
I wouldn’t recommend duplicating a CG scene. You’re not going to learn as much that way because you’re an additional step removed from reality. Just like a painter wouldn’t duplicate an existing painting of a still life, he’d do his own still life.
