Core i7 920 How many cores?

Hello, I’ve read that the Core i7 920 have a kind of hypertreading technology. That mean that windows will see 8 procesors instead of 4 (Le successeur du Core 2 Duo : Intel Core i7 (Nehalem)), does it mean that vray will see 8 cores too?

I guess so. This was the case with earlier HT cpus that you were able to see 2 brackets instead of one.

These cpus are getting good reviews…maybe my next machine will use them :slight_smile:

HT do not boost you CPU by factor 2 - you just get 5-10% more performance
sure, you see doubble buckets in render but thats just for your ego
if you need more bucktes in screen to fell better type in script listener F11

Hyper threading shows as if there would be x2 num of cpu’s but as mentioned above it has very little actual performance boost. Simply put an 8 core machine will have roughly twice as much power then a 4 core machine with HT.

HT was a bit buggy in the older procs so it should be fun to see how it handles on these new Core i7’s. Hopefully they did their homework.

The benchmarks so far are impressive either way.

Core i7 920 or 940 has 4 cores that work with 8 threads. This is not an octocore (8 cores). Octocores are for Q4 2009, hexacores (6cores) will come out sooner.

Am ordering a dual quadcore setup with the xeon version of the 940 series after reading 6 different reviews. The extreme version is faster in ghz but the speeddifference in many many many benchmarks between the 940 and the extreme version is way to small to pay 500 dollars extra.

ive heard intel s having probs with this new architecture…think its memory related …cant remember what they said in the news :slight_smile:
