Corona 15 Rendering slower than 14

Corona 15 is render quite a bit slower than 14, anyone else noticing this?

Also where is the “Dedicated fog material” for Corona 15 that was on the Trello road map?

Another issue I have found is that with a large scene I am working on IPR locks up 3ds max while changing material properties.

Hi!

Can you share an example from Corona 14 and 15? If you have a scene which renders slower in 15, could you share it with us at https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

We usually can’t include everything listed on the roadmap. Please see: https://trello.com/c/7s5cmRFA/272-important-road-map-information-please-read

This definitely sounds like a bug that we should investigate. Please report it (as a separate issue) at https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Thank you!

Feeling is mutual (tho on C4D)

imho, proof of product progress stats is devs/owners responsibility (marketing strategy) & in this regard it’d be best to have a stat chart representing results from different versions on a benchmark site
in the old days, this was the case

Sorry, I didn’t get that. Can you explain what you are referring to?

Hi Maru,

Thank you for the response and Great work on Corona 15! You guys added a lot of great stuff. To answer your questions below.

I cannot share right now, this is a Clients project that I am continuously working on right now and it’s about 4GB in size.

We usually can’t include everything listed on the roadmap.

I understand, but this is the first time you guys haven’t checked off what was complete on the Trello page so I had no clue what was actually added.

Okay will do, This has happened quite a few times now. Corona 14 was pretty solid. I was just trying to change the sheen of a material while using IPR.

I just encountered the same problem.
I created an animation and rendered it yesterday with version 14. I wanted to test it today with version 15. I didn’t change anything. I didn’t touch any settings (except for reassigning a Chaos Cosmos image that had become impossible to find, oddly enough).
Well, the rendering times are longer. For some images that took 7:44, it’s now 8:40 with version 15 ! And what’s more, there’s a slight change in the white balance; it’s cooler now.

Yes I noticed my scene in Corona 14 rendered around 6:30 and now in Corona 15 it’s about a minute longer to render.

Another issue I have found is that with a large scene I am working on IPR locks up 3ds max while changing material properties.

Have the same problem for a while. Very annoying, have to work like on minefield.

No certain steps to reproduce issue - can be triggered by almost any action like selecting some object(as simple as standart box), modifying object, apply material, change material properties, or even SME browsing. Most of time working fine, but can happen at any time - 3dsmax locked, but, probably, it crashed, as RAM usage usually goes to somethng like 250MB, just no messages and the only way to close is kill it in task manager.

As for now - noticed only in heavy scenes.

Yes my IPR will lock up 3ds max too. The ram will stay very high though, and just like you I’ll have to end 3ds max through task manager.

I’m now rendering out the animation of this large scene with Corona 15 and noticed that it is still Parsing every frame. Is that because it was originally setup with Corona 14, is there something I should check that should be on?

Please enable the development/experimental stuff rollout - https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/articles/4528523195537

And then make sure you have “Fast animation parsing” enabled there.

I will also try to get some more information about this feature. Perhaps it is expected that it still reparses in some cases.

Update: we only parse the things that changed between frames. If all (or many) things are changed, then parsing will get slower. This may not work with some 3rd party plugins (for example Forest Pack Ivy) because then we cannot tell what exactly changes and when.

@Donfarese @michel_lacroix hi guys, I created support tickets #492118 and #492119 respectively for you. You should get email notifications about them. We would really appreciate it if you could continue over there. Thanks!
