Create a new simple colour

Perhaps a silly question but how do you create a new colour and say apply a slight reflection. I can’t see anything suitable in the presets. The tutorials on materials for 3.4 doesnt seem to cover this basic task.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding your question, but what you might be looking for is simply changing the value of the Reflect parameter. See Chaos Docs for more info.

Kind regards,
Peter

Thank you Peter for your reply. i discovered the small icon at the base of the material page later.

Keep in mind that when adding additional layers their order matters - top-most layer in the material settings is rendered as the outer-most.
There is also a difference in the render results between adding an additional reflective layer and using the VRayBRDF’s Reflection parameters.

Kind regards,
Peter

Hi grain,

The easiest way to do that is:
> Create a ‘Generic’ material
> Choose a color in the ‘Diffuse’ slot
> Set the ‘Reflect’ color to something bright (close to white)
> Make sure that ‘Use Fresnel’ is enabled (it is by default)
That’s all. If a blurrier reflections are needed:
> Set the ‘Reflection Glossiness’ value to something smaller than 1.0 like 0.8 for example. It isn’t recommend to go lower than 0.5 with the glossiness.

There are a couple of library materials that will also work. One example is the following:
> Plastic_Simple_Shiny_Gray > Create it and change the ‘Diffuse’ color to your liking

Hope that helps.
