Creating a metal grid - only using textures?

Hi

I wonder what is the best way to create a metal grid like this in revit / enscape?

I have tried using cutouts - but then i miss the depth - i guess that needs a displacement map or moddeling the complete grid, but that would make the model extreme heavy i guess.

I’ve had to do something like this in sketchup.. so not sure if this works the same way in revit or if its the best way to do it? but it worked for me :slight_smile:

I created the grid as a separate model and then just used the proxy settings to add it to the main model (keeping the model light)

below is just an example, no real work put in (you can download my dxf of the grid here)

seperate model of grid for proxy

proxy in main model

what enscape shows

The only other solution would be to use a stack of 2D planes with your mask applied on it the fake the geometry.

If the polygons are very long and large in this case, the performance cost wouldn’t be huge. It’s just a problem if each little quad of your grid consists of it’s own boxes (so they would not intersect). It’s hard to control the triangulation from within Revit unfortunately.

This is using Thomas’s suggestion…

ah thanks to all three of your :slight_smile:

@Gadget_1

is this done in revit?

is it possible to create 2d planes in revit?

Sketchup - but the theory is the same; a layer of 10 PNG grids set at 1mm distance from each other.
