I’m trying to figure out a method to create color variation within a single tree or shrub and was wondering if anyone had a good method to do this. I’ve tried it with multi-sub object materials but there is no blending or transition from one face ID to the next, only a harsh edge. Using vertex colors I can paint nice soft transitions, then use the blend material with a vertex color map in the mask slot to nicely blend 2 materials, but can’t figure out a way to blend more than 2 materials that way since the blend material only allows for 2 materials to be blended. Is there a way to blend more more than 2 materials or diffuse maps, with soft transitions like you would get with vertex colors?
You could try a composite map, works a lot like photoshop and you can use masks for each layer.
The vray blend material can do 10, different channel for each map and you could do whatever you wanted with it.
The least overhead would be to mix in a macro-level per-object map(A: UVW1) with a micro-level per-leaf map(B: UVW2), control the uniqueness of leaf using a MIX map (MIX: UVW3)
Diffuse: A: This can be a nested color noise
B: This can be per face, multitexture
MIX: Vertexpaint, randomcolor, etc.
Are you talking blend within a single leaf, or just multiple colored leaves ?
